Not only was it an exciting experience for those that witnessed it, but it made history for both the university and the PBC. This national championship is the first for the Clayton State women’s basketball team and also the first ever women’s basketball championship title for the PBC. Clearly the Lakers had more than enough to celebrate as they held their trophy proudly.

A First For The Lakers
The women’s basketball team of Clayton State gave the Peach Belt Conference its 30th overall championships win. The Lady Lakers beat Michigan State for the Division II National title. Teshymia Tillman led the team which was no surprise since she was named “Most Outstanding Player”. Clayton State had only lost one game going into the national championship while Michigan State had lost three. To conclude the game the Lakers hit a 47% shots from the field and forced the Huskies to a season-low point total.

Ahoy Matey!
Armstrong Atlantic State University has been a leader in women’s tennis for years. They are the three time defending champions and this season they are headed toward another championship title. Impressively, AASU completed their 2005 season with the record of 30-0. The perfect season set the path for the following years that the Pirates were to face. The Pirates women’s tennis team record is currently 16-0 and that makes their overall win streak 61-0. They may have even forgotten how it feels to lose since some of the younger players have never known AASU as a losing team.
The video below is an interview with some of the seniors of the 2010 winning tennis team.

Pressure's On
It is very rewarding for a team to be placed in the #1 seating, but there is a lot of pressure that comes along with that achievement.
Sunday, March 13th, 2011 the baseball rankings announced that Georgia College & State University was ranked #1. These Bobcats have played outstanding and they have moved up in the rankings three spots from the last week rankings. This is Georgia College & State University's first #1 ranking since 2006. They received this ranking not once, but five times in 2006. The Bobcats beat some crucial teams and now they have to be sure to keep this momentum as they move further along in the season.

Not only is this exciting for the Bobcats, but it is exciting for the Peach Belt Conference to have one of their teams showcased as #1. The Bobcats are the only baseball team in the top ten rankings that is a member of the PBC. To be #1 portrays the level of competition that the conference has to offer.
Although it is good to be recognized, being ranked #1 puts the pressure on. It is almost as though no matter who the #1 team is, they will always have a big target on their back. Every other baseball team is going to be out to beat them even more than the others because they too want to be ranked #1. While the Bobcats continue to play well they need to also stay together and not let the pressure get to them.
Other Peach Belt Conference teams that are in the running for this honor are North Georgia, ranked 11th and USC Aiken, ranked 16th. As the baseball season continues so will the rankings.

Making It All Worth While
The time has come to award players with their well-deserved accolades as the basketball seasons come to an end. The men’s basketball All-Conference team was decided in Aiken, S.C. at a banquet for all teams. Each Head Coach casts a vote on which players they think should make this team, but they are not permitted to vote for any players from their own team. These players are considered to be the top in the entire conference and it is a great honor to be awarded with a place on the team. The first team was made up of Phillip Brown- Georgia Southwestern, Timmy Downs-Clayton State, George Johnson-Augusta State, Franck Ndongo-Augusta State and Brandon Robinson-Clayton State.
Other significant awards are labled as “Freshman of the Year”, “Defensive Player of the Year”, “Player of the Year” and “Coach of the Year”. These are the winners for the 2010-2011 season:
Freshman of the Year: Colin Slotter, Georgia Southwestern
Defensive Player of the Year: Alvin Brown, USC Aiken
Player of the Year: Phillip Brown, Georgia Southwestern
Coach of the Year: Mike Leeder, Georgia Southwestern

What is PBC?
This blog will inform people about what is currently going on in the Peach Belt Conference(PBC). This conference has been around for 21 years and is made up of 13 different colleges/universities. Flagler College is one of the members of this conference and since I am currently a student-athlete at this institution I am very interesting in the different competions that are taking place. I hope to keep viewers up-to-date on events and games that are being played among the PBC teams. The level of competition is fierce and I am excited to be able to showcase this level of intensity through this personal blog.
